Abstract

Modern-day society is characterized by the fact that change and the
displacement of people occur with great ease. These phenomena give
rise to the "liquidity" that Zygmunt Bauman speaks of and to multiculturalism that is such a prevalent object of study today. In this
context, literary imagology is a fertile and useful field of inquiry for an
understanding of the relevant cultural shocks and exchanges, and the
literature on this topic is paramount for any understanding of
intercultural phenomena, participating as both agent and receiver of
this fluidity and this capacity for displacement.
In this context, we propose to analyze the novels Myra by Maria Velho
da Costa and Livro by José Luís Peixoto, focusing on the way the
