Abstract

The current paper deals with the development of strategic mediation skills within the context of teaching and learning Portuguese as a Second and Foreign Language (PSL/PFL), drawing on the CEFR-CV (Council of Europe 2020). Through a pragmatic standpoint, the research identifies discourse markers and linguistic realizations that support mediation strategies. The article proposes a preliminary model that aligns pragmatic functions – outlined in the Referential Camões PLE (Camões I.P. 2017) – with the mediation strategies defined in the CEFR-CV, emphasizing the need for practical tools to assist educators in teaching and evaluating this competence. This work constitutes an initial phase of an action-research project aimed at fostering mediation competencies among PSL/PFL learners in a transparent and pedagogically effective way.
